Steve Hernandez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Felix H. Morales Funeral Home - Central on Mar. 30, 2026.
Steve Delgado Hernandez III

Steve Delgado Hernandez III was born on the first day of the new year, January 1st 1937, to Maria Delgado Hernandez and Steve Hernandez II, and rode into the sunset on March 25 2026.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Hernandez, his parents, and his siblings: Connie Renteria, Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, Freddie Hernandez, Gloria Hernandez, Manuel Perez, Ismael Perez, and David Silva.

He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, an Air Force veteran, and a cowboy.

Our Grandpa wore many hats in his lifetime. He lived a long, rich life, full of stories often told by campfires on trail rides, on horseback in his prime, or over a few beers, food and country music at the cattle call with his friends and loved ones.

He lived an honest life, working for over 70 years in construction and carpentry. He served our nation as an Airman 2nd Class (E-2). He was one of the original Vaqueros trail riders, riding with the club on the 350 mile, two week trek from the Mexican border in Hidalgo TX to Houston, ending in the annual parade opening the Livestock Show and Rodeo.

He was a calm, cool, collected, and kind man who had a big belly laugh and was dedicated to his wife of 60 years. He'd often greet you with a loud "Howdy" or a salute; you could always find him chewing gum or eating ice cream; or you could often catch him saying his favorite quote: "Well I'll be damned!"

He is survived by his siblings: Josephina Garcia, Robert Hernandez, Samuel Perez, and Leo Silva; by his children: Gina M. Valles, Steve D. Hernandez IV, Robert D. Hernandez, and Marcus T. Hernandez; and by his 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

We will miss you Grandpa, but we can't wait to hear your booming "Howdy!" when we see each other

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2026, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Felix H. Morales Funeral Home, Houston, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm.
