Steven Leslie Iverson
Steven was born to Leslie and Helen Iverson in San Francisco, California on January 10, 1945. He spent his formative childhood years in Yankton, South Dakota surrounded by loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. It was here that the roots of family and farming took hold.
Les and Helen moved their young family to southern California where Steve became a dedicated three sport athlete at Western High School. Following graduation, he continued his academic and football pursuits at Fullerton Community College and Long Beach State. At this time, he met Sandra Bullock, the love of his life. They were married on June 25, 1966. Steve and Sandy raised three children and were happily married for 58 years.
Steve began his forty-two-year career in education as an English teacher and coach at Apollo Junior High in Cypress, California, and retired in 2010 as the superintendent of Grants Pass School District. One of his highlights in life was stepping away from education for a short period to work in the private sector with his brother, Greg. Along the way, he took time to pursue his love of ranching, boating and spending time with family and friends.
Steven entered into heavenly rest in Grants Pass, Oregon on February 11, 2025.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sandy and loving family: son Dane Iverson; daughters Stephany (and husband Joel) and Stacy (and husband Dereck); siblings Jeanne (and husband Richard) and Gayle; grandchildren Marissa, Ashlee, Whitney, Colby, Caroline, Makayla, Steven, Houston, Bronx and Avery; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews that he cherished.
A celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m., April 19, 2025 at Grants Pass High School Commons.
