Steve McClain

GREENFIELD – John Stephen McClain, age 84, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born in Indianapolis on March 22, 1941, to John Alex and Katherine Louise (Overstreet) McClain. Steve graduated from Greenfield High School in 1959. He married Joyce Ann (Baker) on July 30, 1960, in Greenfield.

Steve worked for IMI as a plant manager for 36 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of Greenfield Christian Church, 10 year 4-H member, and founding member of McDonald's College of Knowledge. He was a Greenfield volunteer fireman for 28 years, enjoyed spending time on his farm, attending local sporting events, smoking a good cigar, and Friday Sister dinners.

He is survived by his daughters, Beth (Richard) Pritchett, Michelle (Bob) Grossman, Stephenie (Kent) Colclazier, and Emily (Bob) Sitzman; thirteen grandchildren, Nick (Ashley) Pritchett, Adam Pritchett, Abby (Nate) Payne, Mitch (Sara) Grossman, Maddie (Jerry) Fogle, John (Kiane) Grossman, Tyler (Kate) Colclazier, Alex (Shawn) Fogleman, Hope (Blaine) Bever, Morgan (Luke) Colclazier, Michael Sitzman, Luke Sitzman, and Kate Sitzman; fifteen great-grandchildren, Sophi Pritchett, Lincoln Pritchett, Teddy Payne, Danielle Payne, Jonas Grossman, Clark Grossman, Fifer Grossman, Maeven Fogle, Scout Grossman, Sunny Grossman, Elway Colclazier, Blaire Bever, Bellamy Bever, Hendrix Lattimore, and Callahan Lattimore; brothers-in-law, Earl Baker and Gary Sword; and sisters-in-law, Sara Baker, Linda Davis, Cathy Baker, and Cindy Sword. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Alex and Katherine Louise McClain; wife, Joyce Ann McClain; brother, David McClain; brothers-in-law, Dr. Larry Baker and Jim Davis; and sisters-in-law, Marty Baker and Caryl Baker.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary with viewing from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
