Steve E. Thacker

Obituary
Steven Eugene Thacker, age 71 of Marion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Kobacker House, with his loving wife by his side. On September 26, 1951, he was born in Marion to the late James D. and Viola M. Thacker, and on December 7, 1999, he married the love of his life, Joyce (Williams).
Although Steve held different jobs throughout his life, he most enjoyed his work as a truck driver, delivering propane for over thirty years. However, those who knew Steve knew that his main passion was his faith. He was a faithful member of Marion Enterprise Baptist Church, where he would often play guitar and sing for the Lord. You could also hear him singing on TV39's live Saturday night program. One of his favorite and most-requested songs was "The Old Man is Dead." Steve truly loved the Lord and loved people; he did not know a stranger. Steve took advantage of every opportunity he had to share with others how the Lord changed his life.
Steve loved spending time with his family and attending family gatherings and cookouts. He enjoyed family vacations (especially to the beach), being outdoors, camping, and riding his Harley Davidson. In his younger years, he enjoyed exercise and weight-lifting.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Thacker; his son John (Crystal) Thacker; his stepson Randall (Jaleen) Amerine, Jr.; his stepdaughters Amber (Terry) Honaker and Abbey Amerine; his grandchildren Raelynn Amerine, John and Nautica Thacker, Mason and Chance Thacker, and Kennady and Ava Strine; his great-grandchildren Jaxson and Jameson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Viola Thacker; his brothers Bobby Lee and James Thacker; his sisters Shelby McMurray, Wilma Champer, and Connie Johns; and his grandchildren Mathew and Baby Amerine, whom he did not meet on this earth but will be united with in Heaven.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 12 pm to 1 pm at Marion Enterprise Baptist Church, 130 Orton St., Marion. The funeral service will take place at 1 pm at the church with burial to follow at Marion Cemetery.
