STEVE VINES Obituary

STEVEN E. VINES Wilson - Memorial Services for Steven E. Vines are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Pastor Terra Sisco officiating. Steve was born in Sulphur Oklahoma on August 20, 1956, to Anna Lee and Jacob W. Vines Jr. He departed from this life on Friday, July 5, 2024 in Ardmore, OK. Steve graduated from Lone Grove High School in 1974 and spent his early years learning trades such as plumbing, carpentry and masonry. He finished his working career retiring from the City of Ardmore as acting manager of the Water Plant. Steve had twenty-five wonderful years with the love of his life, Betty McBeth Vines. They loved to travel and have adventures seeing the country. They traveled from Mexico to Canada over the years seeing the sights and enjoying their time together. Steve was a great dancer and he and Betty made a striking couple on the dance floor. Steve loved nature. He took every opportunity when traveling to experience the sights and special attributes of various parts of the country. He was an avid collector of bricks, acquiring an extensive collection and could tell you the history of every brick he possessed. His garden was the pride of the neighborhood, built on years of experience and knowledge gained from his uncles. He loved showing his garden, the giant sunflowers were something to see. He enjoyed taking the fruits of his labor to family and friends. We all loved it as well! His nieces and nephews were the pride and joy of his life. He was the great leader of the pack. He took immense pride in every one of their accomplishments and loved them dearly. He loved to take them fishing and pass on knowledge in all things. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, his brother Jacob Vines III, Great niece Shea Self and stepdaughter, Laura Rose. He is survived by siblings: Anna Shelton, of Benton, IL, Darla Dougan (Tim) of Dickson, OK and Theresa Gustine (Alan) of Wilson, OK. I worked with Steve for almost 16 years while at the City of Ardmore. He was a blast to work with and to be around. Always upbeat and kind to everyone. Steve was only a month older than me, so we had a lot in common talking about the Class of "74". Travel well old man. So many memories of you still come to life.
