Steven Owen Ashton, a respected lawyer and dedicated family man, passed away on October 10, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 63. He was born in Dearborn, Michigan on May 22, 1962 to his beloved parents, the late John (“Jack”) and Nancy (née Haislet) Ashton.
Steven graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1984 and earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 1987. He went on to work a long and distinguished career at Draugelis & Ashton and later at Garan, Lucow, Miller.
Outside of work, Steven enjoyed spending time with his children, extended family, and close friends. He had a lasting connection to the family cottage on Crystal Lake, where he enjoyed family gatherings from childhood through later life. He also had a deep appreciation for film and a lifelong love of reading.
Steven is survived by his former spouse, Christine Ashton, the mother of his four children: Charles (Ashley) Ashton, Alicia (Tyler) Mayer, Jillian Ashton, and Claire Ashton. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings, Jeff Ashton, Joel (Kris) Ashton, and Jenny (Bryan) Ashton Worwa. His family will cherish the memories of the love and support he provided throughout their lives.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, located at 280 S. Main St, Plymouth, Michigan. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 12:00 PM, also at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home. Steven will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.
Steven’s legacy will be carried on through his children and the many lives he touched during his personal and professional journey. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Those who wish to honor the memory of Steven are invited to donate flowers for the visitation and service or consider a contribution to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000 - Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
