Steven V. Callaghan

My name is KP Enderle, Steve and I were in the Marines together. I just heard of Steve's passing while getting together with a few of our friends from STA Platoon and I'm deeply saddened. Steve and I lost contact more than 30 years ago. My condolences to Marie, Paulette, his brothers, his sister and Cousin Flud who was with us in 1/5, 1st Battalion 5th Marines. I felt like I knew Steve's parents and siblings as he told me so many stories about them and often. Steve and I went through Recon School together, which was even harder than boot camp, and shared more than a few beers together. I'll never forget when Steve purchased a green 1964 Ford 4 wheel drive with a 4 speed stick shift that we would take into town. Steve liked his coffee so we would often stop at McDonald's. As anyone over 40 knows, McDonald's coffee used to be scalding hot. There were no cup holders in his truck so Steve would put his cup of coffee between his legs and without fail, while shifting gears would spill said coffee on his zipper area. A scream followed by many adjectives and pronouns not printable soon followed. You'd think he would've learned after the 100th time but most of us Marines aren't too smart. Steve was a big country music fan and introduced me to some of his favorites. George Jones, Hank Williams Jr and John Anderson to name a few. We used to sing/scream the words after putting back a few cold ones. To this day, whenever John Anderson's, "Seminole Wind" plays it always brings back great memories of my time with Steve. Hi Chris, Laurel and Campbell sending thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

It was my pleasure knowing Steve as my next-door neighbor and my honor to call him a friend. I'll always fondly recall our many conversations about backyard projects and crops growing in his garden (which he was very proud of), or just exchanging life stories. No one could tell a story as colorfully, or with as much passion, as Steve. His sayings and expressions will live on in my memory - and my conversations. My deepest sympathies to Paulette, and his family. May fond memories bring some measure of comfort during your grief.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Please take comfort in the words found at 2nd Thessalonians 2:16,17.
