Steven CASSIDA Obituary

January 22, 1944 - September 11, 2023

Steven (Steve) Cassida passed away peacefully on September 11th, 2023. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janis Cassida, his sisters, Diane Tvrdik and Sharon Shaw and his father and mother, Harold and Marie Cassida. He is survived by his son, Brendan Cassida, his daughters, Erin Cassida and Keegan Freer, his son in law, Jordan Freer, his granddaughters, Rowan and Fallon Freer, his brother, Gary Cassida, and by the many friends he made along his journey.

Steve was born on January 22nd, 1944 in Paola, KS. He moved frequently in his youth, but spent many years in Minnesota where he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in pharmacy. He spent over 40 years as a pharmacist, committed to helping others. After Hurricane Katrina, he spent several weeks in Louisiana, volunteering to aid the impacted communities with health services. He was passionate about his profession and was a union president for many years, dedicated to the support of his colleagues.

Steve had countless hobbies and interests, chief among them were motorcycles, guitar, woodworking, and travel. He was a proud Harley owner and HOG member, and enjoyed many rallies and cross-country rides over the years. A licensed pilot, he spent much of his youth in Minnesota flying with the Crystal Skyways club, notably picking his wife-to-be up on her lunch break and flying her to a romantic meal in the control tower of a neighboring city's airfield. He would often spend his evenings playing his guitar and perfecting his acoustic fingerstyle technique, or working in his woodshop making furniture and toys for his children and grandchildren.

Steve also had an inextinguishable spirit for adventure and, despite having hip and knee replacements, he enjoyed wild activities from canoeing to mountaineering to whitewater rafting to bungee-jumping. He especially loved the Wind River Mountains and Green River in Wyoming, with Squaretop Mountain as his favorite summit.

We will miss his humor, his wealth of stories, and his genuine compassion and support for all the people that were fortunate to be in his orbit.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spokane Humane Society or to The Arbor Day Foundation.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 22nd, 2023 at 1 pm at Alt's Copperhouse located at 418 W Seltice Way Post Falls, ID 83854.

I'm so sorry to hear of Steve' passing. He and I worked at Target together before he and Janis move to Washington. He was a great guy. My sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. Carol (Bruneau) Malson

Steve was a beautiful man, friend, colleague, fellow Uof Minnesota grad and work colleague in Spokane.
Times with Steve and my " brother" Joe were always an intellectual and social adventure, could involve guns, guitars, beverages, mountainside hikes and always cherished conversations. I still have a 12 string guitar traded from Steve for acoustic classical. The hardest working pharmacist I ever knew! RIP old friend!
