Steven J. Cota

Marine Cpl. Steven J. Cota, 63, of Hartford formerly of New Britain, has passed on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with illness. Born in Hartford to the late Leon and Doris Cota, he graduated from Bulkeley High School and then enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving for many years. Steven earned many decorations and badges such as the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Mast, Rifle Marksmanship Badge, and Pistol Marksmanship Badge.

Steven leaves behind his sisters, Theresa DeVito and husband Thomas, Corinne Gaudet, Laura Frank, and brother-in-law Jeffrey Papallo; his nephews and nieces, Thomas R. DeVito, Charles Cormier, Eric DeVito and wife Stefanie, Kate Frank, Shara DeVito, Ryan Gaudet and wife Emely, Carissa Sfakios, and Dennis Frank and wife Dawn; his great nephew and great nieces, Thomas J. DeVito, Jaelyn, Sofia, and Ella DeVito, Madison and Elizabeth Frank, Emily Mulholland, and Kaitlyn Ferro. He also leaves his special friends, Derek and Jenny, Lilly, and Barbara, and the family would like to extend their appreciation to his nurse Joanna. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Linda Papallo and his brothers-in-law Charles Cormier, Dennis Frank, and Michael Gaudet.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, August 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Burial with military honors to follow directly after at CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
