Steven S. Deer

Steven S. Deer, 82, of Greenwood, passed away on October 11, 2025. He was born on October 10, 1943 in Beech Grove, IN to the late Kenneth S. and Lucille Marie (Hoeping) Deer.

Steve dedicated 35 years of service to General Motors in Indianapolis. He was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of The Greenwood Catholic Church for 50 years. Outside of work, Steve was an avid landscaper who loved to fish, had a gift for telling jokes, and never met a stranger. A true family man, Steve was deeply rooted in his faith. He loved and cared for his family and friends with a generous heart.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Mary Anne (Haag) Deer; children, Michael (Julie) Deer, David (Jennifer) Deer, Stephanie (Neil) Trisler, and Beth (Joe) Williamson; grandchildren, Shelby (Harris) Rosenbalm, Barbara, Matthew, Joseph, Jacob, and Jessica Deer, Rylan (Nick Gauss) Deer, Caleb (Maddi) Deer, Nolan Deer, Zachary Housholder, and Max Housholder, Andrew, Luke, Zachary Williamson; great grandchildren, Liam Rosenbalm and Dallas Deer; siblings, Theresa Armborst, Anita Deer, Tom Deer, Kenny (Terry) Deer, Mary Schubert and Judy Hoeping; sister in law, Debi Deer, brother in law, Jerry Kiefer; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Steve was preceded in death by siblings, Phillip Deer, Kathy Kiefer, and Becky Martin.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm with rosary at 7:30 pm at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center at The Gardens of Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian Street, Greenwood, IN.

Steve will be laid to rest in The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery and Mausoleum Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church.
