Steven Thomas Donovan, "Da Big Kahuna", passed away on March 11th, 2024, at the age of 66 in Dunedin, Florida.
He was born on September 9th, 1957, in North Tonawanda, New York, to Robert and Ann Donovan. He was the youngest of four sons, and moved frequently due to his father serving in the United States Navy. While stationed, Steven remembered his childhood fondly while living in Virginia Beach, VA. When Steven was in elementary school, the family permanently settled in Clearwater, Florida, after his father retired from the United States Navy.
Steven went to Dunedin High School, where he was an avid member of the swim team and also worked as a lifeguard on Clearwater beach. He graduated from Dunedin in 1975 and then went on to pursue an education in Insurance and Business at Florida State University, graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in 1980.
Post graduation, Steven moved to Ft. Lauderdale, where he worked a number of jobs while getting his insurance career started. While living there, he met the love of his life Lori Fritz, who he later married in 1984. While living in South Florida, their days were full of surfing, camping trips and sailing.
To be closer to family, they relocated to Clearwater in 1989 and lived just down the road from his parents, until moving to their forever home in Dunedin in 1998.
Steven spent the majority of his career with Summit Holdings, where he was an auditor supervisor, and managed a team that spanned the central Florida area. He retired from Summit in 2019 after nearly 30 years of service.
Steven was an avid outdoorsman, and when he wasn't working, spent much of his time out on his boat, fishing, crabbing, and going on sunset cruises around Honeymoon and Caladesi Island. He also loved surfing throughout his life, and often took summer trips to the east coast of Florida to surf the Atlantic.
He was extremely passionate about sports, specifically golf and tennis, which he played several times a week. After retiring, he volunteered at Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf course, as a course starter and monitor.
Steven was a lifetime member of the Dunedin Boat Club, which is an integral part of the Dunedin Community. The Dunedin Boat Club members supported many social and philanthropic events.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Lori, daughters Shannon and Morgan, their husbands Danny and Andrew, five Grandchildren, and brothers Michael, Robert, and Jeffery. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Donovan, and father, Robert Donovan.
A memorial service honoring Steven's life will take place at Coastal Christian Church (2686 Bayshore Blvd, Dunedin) on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2:30PM. Following the service, a celebration of life reception will be held at the Dunedin Boat Club (49 Marina Plaza) in Downtown Dunedin at 5PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steven's honor to the Dunedin Youth Sailing Association or the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida.

Words cannot express how much I will miss Steve. My heartfelt condolences to Lori, Shannon and Morgan. As my closest friend for over fifty years, his memory will always be with me. What I will remember most is what a good and decent person he was, how much he cared about his family and how he loved life. He had a distinctive laugh, and an infectious smile. Steve was a unique and wonderful human being. May his memory be eternal.

Steve has been a friend since our Elementary School days at Kings Highway. While there were times when we may not have seen each other for a few months, when we got together we never missed a beat. Steve was the kindest and most positive person I knew and totally committed to his family. I am heartbroken by the loss of my friend, but take solace in knowing we will some day meet again.
