Steven Edwards Obituary

San Angelo - Steven "Steve" Hemphill Edwards, age 72, a devoted husband, father, and cherished friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2025, while on a RV trip in Kerrville, Texas.

Born on November 15, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas, Steve was the son of the late John Horace "Took" Edwards and Dorothy Louise Stevens Edwards of Wall, Texas. On September 28, 1973, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Kay Pinson, in San Angelo, where they began their life together before eventually relocating to Odessa, Texas.

Steve dedicated his professional career to the oil and gas industry, working for respected companies including Amoco and Oxy Permian. He was deeply appreciative of the colleagues and friendships he built over the years. After a successful career, he retired in July 2012 and returned to San Angelo to be closer to family and lifelong friends.

Steve was a man of deep faith and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life-spending time with his beloved wife Marilyn and their twin daughters, Allison and Courtney, caring for his dogs, enjoying ranch life, traveling in his RV, listening to Wall High School football broadcasts, watching tennis, and engaging in spirited conversation. Known for his warm personality and storytelling, Steve never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Took and Dorothy Edwards; his brother, John Wiley Edwards; and his sister-in-law, Sherrill Kaye Holland Edwards.

Left to honor his memory are his beloved wife of 52 years, Marilyn Edwards of San Angelo; daughters Allison Edwards and Courtney Edwards, both of Austin, Texas; sisters Margo Dierschke and her husband Glenn of San Angelo, and Kim Krieg and her husband Earl of Whitney, Texas. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Charlie and Marsha Halfmann, Randy and Cathy Bredemeyer, and Eddie and Jenny Pinson, all of San Angelo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Serving as an honorary pallbearer is his nephew, Garrett Pinson. Pallbearers include nephews Blake Bredemeyer, Brandon Bredemeyer, Derek Halfmann, Drew Dierschke, Reid Pinson, and Wade Pinson.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo, followed by a lunch and time of fellowship in the church's Fellowship Hall. A private family burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

The Edwards family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, the Texas emergency response, rescue, and recovery teams, and to all those who have offered prayers, kind words, cards, flowers, and support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the San Angelo Animal Shelter, Holy Angels Catholic Church, Meals for the Elderly (San Angelo), or the West Texas Boys Ranch.
