Steven Harold Gustafson

Steven Harold Gustafson gained his joyous victory on November 7, 2025, in Spearfish SD at his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born May 11, 1949, in Minneapolis MN to Gerald and Beverly Gustafson. He married Martha Daniels on August 29, 1969. They began their married life together in Minneapolis where their first 7 children were born.

Amongst the many families and friends in the Minneapolis congregation of the living Christianity, God began His work in Steve and in about 1976 he was given the grace to believe. This began his lifelong journey in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church facing trials, tribulations and victories, through the redemptive work of Jesus and with the forgiveness of sins.

In 1980 Steve and Martha moved to the Black Hills and raised their 10 children in Spearfish South Dakota. Martha preceded him in death after 51 years of marriage. He spent most of his working years at Homestake Mining Company and then in various delivery jobs where he enjoyed being out in the community, often confessing his faith. This led him to meet his surviving wife Linda (Weidlein) Gustafson who has been a blessed helpmate, loving him in life and in death.

He is survived by his 6 sons, James (Paula) of Illinois, Joey (Rosanne) and Jason (Carrie) of Washington, Jay (Janice) of Wyoming, Jeff (Kari) of Alaska and Jack (Andria) of South Dakota; 4 daughters JoAnne (Dion) Wilen of South Dakota, Jill (Jack) Sarkinen of Washington, Joyce (Bud) Williamson and Jennifer Mayzsak of Wyoming. Also, Linda's daughters Tina (Larry) Peterson and Tammy (Jim) Allen and son Don Morrill; Numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Steve is survived by his 2 sisters, Roxanne (Dave) Mickelson and Sue (Charles) Stenberg of Minnesota. He also has 2 stepbrothers Johnny and Leonard Wilhelm. Steve is also survived by brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews and Christian friends.

Steve has been preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha, siblings Kenneth and Paula, 5 brothers-in-law, grandson Cameron Gustafson and great grandson Randall Gustafson.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 11th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12th at 11:00 am at the church. Interment will follow at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
