Steven J. Higgins Sr., age 79, of Wheatland, PA, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Andover Village, Andover, Ohio. Born June 6, 1945, in Seattle, Washington, he was the son of the late Bernard and Esther (Engel) Higgins. He married Kimberly (Konnen) Higgins on March 15, 1980, they were married for 30 years as she preceded him in death on September 14, 2010.He married the former Helen Horodyski in 1966 and she resides in Kinsman, OH. Steve was a graduate of Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma, WA, he served his country honorably in the US Army. He then attended Olympic College studying music. Steve always had a passion for becoming a performer. While in Tacoma he pursued his singing with many local bands. But when Steve reached his 20s, he traveled to Las Vegas Nevada where his singing and musical gifts allowed him to soar. He became a Vegas Performer at 21 years of age. He worked for Sharon Tube for 34 years, where he ran the pipe mill, until his retirement in 2007. He was very involved in the union and served as a union steward. Steve was the lead vocalist and guitarist of his own band, First Class, that played at many of the local bars, hotels, banquet halls and country clubs throughout the valley, for many different functions. Steve was an avid golfer; he loved all kinds of music and was an accomplished musician who sang and could play both the guitar and piano. He also liked gardening, swimming, and scuba diving but most of all he enjoyed spending time with people. After his retirement he would go to nursing homes and entertain the residents. He was a member of the Farrell VFW and a former member of Grace Chapel Church. Surviving are two daughters, Tami (Terry) Muresan, of Bristolville, OH, and Mandi (Jackson) Jones, of Farrell, PA, three sons, Robert Nemeth, of Kinsman, OH, Steven J. Higgins Jr., of Greenville, PA, and Shawn (Jessica) Higgins, of Kinsman, OH, a brother Frank Higgins, of Tacoma, WA, two sisters, Lou Ann (Abel) Onsurez and Gailene Donovan, both of Tacoma, WA, six grandchildren David, Christine, Karolyn, Joshua, Austin and Jaxson and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Earl Higgins. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, PA, 16146. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with the Pastor Don Reed, of Don Reed Showask Don officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sharon, Pa. On-line condolences may be made by visiting stevensonfuneralhome.net.
