Steven Eugene Matzek, 64, of Oakley, KS passed away December 10, 2024 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born April 5, 1960 in Great Bend, KS to Gene and Jaynell (Stambaugh) Matzek.
Steve grew up in Norton and later graduated from North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit. He and his family moved to Colby where he began his career of over 30 years as a Diesel Mechanic. Steve worked at Tri-County Implement in Oakley and then at Logan County Implement. He enjoyed riding his Harley, many could recognize him by his mustache and long red ponytail. Steve was often stubborn but would be the first one to lend a hand to someone in need. He loved spending time with his dad, kids, and grandchildren fishing. His grandchildren were the light of his life, he loved going to their sports and school activities.
Steve is survived by his children: Rachel Matzek of Oakley, KS, Tanner (Kasie) Matzek of Liberal, KS, Sam (Heather) Matzek of Colby, KS, and Jay Matzek of Silverdale, Washington; mother, Jaynell Matzek of Norton; grandchildren: Hayden Bahe, Tucker Matzek, Alex Matzek, Isaac Matzek, and Kash Matzek; brothers, Rick (Annora) Matzek of Kearney, NE and Bryan (Donna) Matzek of Woodward, OK, and sister, KK (Chris) Assmann of Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Matzek and sister, Kay Matzek.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 am Friday, January 3, 2025 at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in the Norton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Thursday, January 2 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oakley Kids Wrestling Club and sent in care of Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Norton, KS 67654. Condolences may be left at www.plumergobber.com
