Steven Mayhood Obituary
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Steve was born on November 3, 1953, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, the son of Charles Eugene "Gene" and Norma Jean "Jeannie" (Smith) Mayhood. He married Nancy Ann Shaff on March 24, 1974 in Effingham, IL.
Steve was a member of the U.S Air Force between 1973-1977. His hobbies included leatherworking, woodworking and building model rockets, airplanes, and ships. Steve also enjoyed following NASCAR and his favorite baseball team the Chicago Cubs. He was an air traffic controller for the FAA in St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy Mayhood; children, Christopher Mayhood, Elizabeth "Beth" Mayhood, and Scott Mayhood; grandchildren, Alyssa Mayhood, Jason Q. Mayhood, Jax Mayhood, Baylee Mayhood, and Zac Mayhood; mother, Jeannie Mayhood; siblings, Mark (Dianne) Mayhood, Jim Mayhood (special friend, Cinia Molina), and Lynne Ann (Robert) Nosbisch; brother-in-law, Steve Swingler; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason R. Mayhood; grandson, Brett Mayhood; father, Gene Mayhood; and sister, Cathy Swingler.
