Steven McCoy Obituary

Steve McCoy left us entirely too soon on the night of December 20, 2025. He was with family and friends at the time of his passing.

Born on May 28, 1954 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Wilbur and Irene McCoy, Steve is survived by his loving sister, Pam, his partner Tina, the Rollman family, and innumerable devoted friends.

After graduating from Lafayette Junior and Senior High School in 1972, Steve worked in the retail food business for several years before turning his interests to home-building and remodeling. Throughout the 1980's and 90's, Steve built a reputation as a perfectionist who could successfully tackle any problem in home construction. His customers and co-workers knew him as someone who avoided shortcuts and always followed through on promises.

Steve was passionate about a great many things. From enjoying the outdoors and travel to his lifelong fascination with cars - particularly his beloved Swedish-made Saabs - Steve dove deep into the details and enjoyed nothing more than sharing his experiences and acquired knowledge with others. He was well-read and unendingly curious about the world around him.

Steve retired in 2002 and moved to Lewis, Colorado. There, just as he'd done back in the Boulder area, he quickly made friends and established roots. And because Steve brought the same qualities to building friendships as he had to building homes - attention to the details, commitment, and standing behind his word - Steve's friendships invariably became lifelong affairs. Anyone lucky enough to have called Steve a friend will attest to his thoughtfulness, honesty, and unwavering loyalty. In a funny way, Steve's love of old cars could be seen as a reflection of how he viewed relationships: he valued things that lasted and he had no use for the faddish or the throwaway.

We will miss everything about you, Steve: your infectious laugh, your faithfulness, the wide-ranging conversations we always had, your ability to remember things about us that others had forgotten or simply didn't care about, and your selflessness.

You were truly one-of-a-kind.
