Steven "Steve" Alvin Meissner passed away on October 19, 2025, surrounded by his family. Steve was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 9, 1942, and raised in Queens, NY. He is the son of German immigrants, Erich Meissner and Johanna (Gerisch) Meissner.

He joined the US Air Force in 1961. He served his country as an Airman First Class until 1965. He was initially stationed in Colorado, but after one year, he was transferred to Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. Steve's weekends while stationed at Pease Air Force Base were spent driving back to New York to see his beloved Dottie. He would make that trip every single weekend.

Steve met Dottie at his 16th birthday party where he asked her to start "going steady!" Dottie was his first love and his last. His first order of business after being honorably discharged from the US Air Force was to marry Dottie in 1966. They remained married for 59 years until his last breath.

Steve and Dottie lived in Queens for the first year of their long and beautiful marriage. They then purchased their first house in North Babylon on Long Island where they welcomed their sons Gary and Paul into the world. In 1976, they moved to Brewster, NY in Putnam County and raised their family in the area. In 2001, they moved to Wappingers Falls and their sons remained close by for many years.

Steve and Dottie began visiting Myrtle Beach, SC in 2019. Their initial trip was a two-week vacation. They loved their vacation so much that they decided to extend the trip to five weeks in 2020. The pandemic turned that 5 weeks into 5 months. They continued to come to Myrtle Beach and fell in love with the area. In 2024, they moved to SC permanently. They quickly made a community of friends in the Myrtle Beach area and had quite a large social circle.

Steve joined the NY Police department in 1965. During his time with NYPD, he earned a Bachelor of Science from the NY Institute of Technology. Dedicated to improving himself and providing a better life for his family, Steve took classes after his shifts at NYIT. He started in NYPD in Harlem. He was assigned at one point during his career to guard Gracey Mansion, the home of the Mayor of New York City. During his assignment, Steve became a friend to Mayor John Lindsay and was very well liked by all members of the Lindsay administration.

Steve was a part the NYPD 23rd precinct for many years. Although he served in leadership in many other precincts in the NYPD, the 23rd is the precinct he considered home. Over the years, Steve was promoted to sergeant and was moved to various precincts. Towards the end of Steve's 27-year law enforcement career, he was assigned to NYPD Highway Unit 1 and spent his days on patrol on a motorcycle.

Steve was a fan of the NY Giants and a die-hard fan of the NY Yankees. Steve would often take his sons and their friends to watch the Yankees at the old Yankee Stadium as they grew up. During the baseball season, you can generally find Steve following the NY Yankees closely and rarely missing a game.

Steve was surrounded by his wife and sons during his last moments. Steve is survived by his lifetime love and wife, Dottie. He is the father of Gary and Paul, the grandfather of Courtney, Mackenzie, Cole, Jenna and Jake. Steve was also the great grandfather of the baby his granddaughter is about to give birth to. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Erich and Johanna, and his brother, Robert.

To know Steve Meissner is to know a man that you can always talk to and a man that would always be there for you. There are no strangers to Steve Meissner. He had a unique sense of humor and was known for his collection of plaid shirts. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. He seemed to be able to find something in common with anyone that crossed his path. Steve is a man that will be missed by many, but that also left so many memories for his loved ones to remember for years to come.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
