Now it has been a year since Steve is gone there are still some who reach for the phone before we remember he is not there to pick up. We still grieve for our buddy. I imagine you, Steve, in heaven hanging out with my dear late husband, with Howlin' Wolf, Billie Holliday, Lead Belly, with Robert Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughn, with you entertaining them with your humor and great stories. You did good here on this planet Steve and we miss you now.

Steve was one of my best supporters of my small business. He was a Historian also. Steve and I would talk for hours about everything. I wish I could've had the chance to say goodbye. Our last conversation was brief. He couldn't really talk. He told me to keep looking out for for the disadvantaged youth aging out of the Fostercare system and don't worry about him. This was our last real conversation. The doctors were still testing to find out why he'd passed out. I'm going to miss my buddy. Rest In Peace my friend. No more pain . You're in God's hands now.

I had to go to Toledo with Steve. We were going to judge a blues competition. I picked him up at his house, which was the first time I met him. All we did was laugh a joke around the whole time together. We became fast friends. We always had a good time, when talking or if we were together. He was a great guy. I will miss him a lot. God Bless you Steve. May you R.I.P.

Steve Soviak was a very dear person to the two of us. We always looked forward to visiting him and chatting at the Ralston in his capacity as building manager. Karen kept him supplied with bags of fair exchange ground coffee. He always greeted us as dear friends, and with a great sense of humor. We treasured his close collaboration as part of the State Fairgrounds Development Coalition, of which we were the co-chairs. He was so supportive of our organizing work and would do anything he could to help. We'll forever associate our beautiful SFDC banner with him, and the wonderful blues event we held for the Coalition that he singularly made possible. He always invited us to the Detroit Blues Society events at the Ralston which we so much enjoyed. Steve weathered some tough times and always had a positive attitude, taking on each challenge with a working-class ethos which we always respected. Our hearts are with him. Frank and Karen

Steve entered my life and made a place in my heart as well. We were great buddies. I met him through his past presidency with the Detroit Blues Society, almost a decade ago. We went on to plan events together, get breakfast any time of day, attend events together and serve together on the RVCA - Ralston Village Community Association, which Steve founded. He was a big brother to me and was always generous with his advice, his time, attention, and with gifts. He loved to buy little things online for his buddies! He LOVED to collect digital images of posters from all decades in all genres. He loved the work of my late husband and celebrated his legacy with me. It was an honor to know Steven Soviak, thank you Steve! We LOVE and MISS you!
