Steven Starr Obituary

Steven Douglas Starr, 78, passed away in his Seymour home September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 20, 1946, in Seymour, Steve was the son of the late Hilda Smith and Woody Starr.

Steve married the love of his life, Linda J. Isaacs, on November 20, 1966. He was a graduate of Cortland High School, class of 1964, and was also a lifelong member of Honeytown Christian church. Steve proudly served his county in the United States National Guard and was recognized for being a Rifle M16 expert 2/4 in April of 1971.

Steve dedicated his life to building and successfully running Starr Enterprise, where he became known for his incredible and one-of-a-kind construction projects. With an adventurous spirit and a mind that moved to the beat of its own tune, Steve loved taking chances and never shied away from a challenge. His remarkable work can be found throughout Jackson County, standing as a lasting testament to his vision and creativity.

Beyond his work, Steve had many passions. He loved gardening, collecting, playing with cards, and-above all, spending time with his family. Whatever the circumstances, Steve always went above and beyond in everything life placed before him. A perfect example of this was when his wife asked for a three-bedroom house and instead received his extraordinary creation, the "Den Tree," a massive home that reflected his belief in never doing anything small.

Later in life, Steve was blessed with a second chance at love with Darlene Butt. Together, they cherished their time traveling, sharing adventures, and enjoying each other's company.

Survivors include his children, Judy (Jeff) Vance, John (Stephanie) Starr, and Jodi Starr; sisters-in-law, Donna Starr and Bobbi (Harold) Garland; brother-in-law, Butch (Brenda) Isaacs; grandchildren, Jordyn (Michael) Cox, Kayla (Daniel) Herr, Brooke (Austin) Snodgrass, Joshua Vance, Jacob (Kylie) Vance, and Lily Starr; great grandchildren, Kennadi Black, and Kylie and Wyatt Cox.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Linda J. Starr; brother, Mike Starr; stepsisters, Pixie Otte and Carol Guiles; brothers-in-law, Jerry Otte and Bud Sweeney; and sister-in-law, Vicki Sweeney.

Yesterday

Jody, John & Jody- I'm sorry for your loss. Uncle Steve was an incredible person. The house that he built for Aunt Linda was spectacular. At Christmas, I miss the progressive euchre games that we played at Bill's & Hilda's. I also miss the Easter candy hunts. We were so lucky as kids to have the extended family. May the Lord ease your pain with joyful memories.

Condolences to Jody, John, Judy and your families! I have many good childhood memories of Uncle Steve, Aunt Linda and you all at the holidays and sometimes in-between! Uncle Steve always had a good story to tell and a smile on his face! He kept the holidays lively
