Steven Galen Steffens September 1, 1947 – October 1, 2025 Overland Park, Kansas
Steven G. Steffens, 78, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on October 1, 2025. Born on September 1, 1947, in Parsons, Kansas, Steve was the beloved son of Louise Steffens (Prairie Village, KS) and Orville Steffens (Tulsa, OK).
Steve grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School before attending the University of Kansas, where he began cultivating a lifelong passion for business, creativity, and connection.
Steve raised two children and was devoted to his family. He spent his life involved in his children’s activities, finding joy in every practice, performance, and milestone. Some of the family’s most cherished memories were made at the family cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, where Steve loved playing, relaxing, and laughing with those he held dear. He took great pride in seeing his children grow into caring, nurturing adults with families of their own.
He began his career in advertising and marketing with Western Auto, which later became Parts America. During this time, NASCAR and drag racing became a major focus of his work, and he traveled to just about every racetrack over the years, merging his love of motorsports with his professional expertise. His career led him to leadership roles across the country, including positions at Merchants Tire & Auto in Manassas, VA; TCI-T3, Michelin in Greenville, SC; and Big O Tires in Denver, CO.
After retiring from corporate life, Steve pursued a new venture, owning and operating a Ben & Jerry’s franchise in Denver. His welcoming spirit and entrepreneurial drive made the shops a community favorite. Later, he sold the business and returned to Overland Park to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Orville Steffens. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; daughter, Denise Monson; son, Scott Steffens; son-in-law, Barry Monson; grandchildren, Lakota, Parker, and Hunter Monson, and Mollie Steffens. He also leaves behind his sister, Sherry (Mike) Foster, and brother, Mike Steffens.
