Steven (Steve) Stewart
Steven Elton Stewart, 71, of Ada passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Steve was born July 12, 1952, in McAlester, Oklahoma. He was adopted at six months of age by Elton and Bonnie Stewart, lifelong Ada educators and residents.
Steve graduated from Ada High School in 1970. Then, he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History and Special Education from East Central University. He continued on to receive another Master's degree from the University of Oklahoma in School Administration.
Steve married Jana Richardson on August 6, 1974, in Maysville, Oklahoma. They made their home in Ada and had two children. Steve was the Administrator for the Regional Education Service Center for the State Department of Education until he retired. His father, Elton, and Steve worked closely together in establishing, with the help of others, educational services for children in rural communities throughout Oklahoma.
Steve had a contagious sense of humor. Despite his lengthy health battle, he retained his humor and he kept us all laughing. He passed away peacefully in inpatient hospice with his family playing his favorite music and singing to him. Music was a driving force (and his college Minor) for Steve, who was a talented musician and singer for years. He loved family, trains, historical documentaries, road trips, science fiction, movies and music. He was a lifelong member of the church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Jana Stewart, of the home; one son, Scott Stewart and wife Sarah, Celina, TX; one daughter, Stacey Stewart, Ada; two grandchildren, Everly and Emmitt; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Bonnie Stewart; a granddaughter, Emma Stewart; and beloved birth sister, Karen Moran.
A private graveside funeral service will be held out of town for family, relatives and close friends.
