Steven Sherill Wilson Sr. or "Willie", 70, of Gray, Maine, passed away on Friday, March 10th, 2023.
Steven was born on August 19,1952 in Portland, Maine to Galen and Barbara Wilson. He was the second oldest of seven children with two brothers and four sisters. He grew up in Lebanon, Maine, and later moved to South Portland where he met his wife, Cynthia Davis. Steven graduated from South Portland High School where they both attended. Steven and Cynthia married on October 26,1974. Soon after they welcomed their first child, Steven Jr. followed by their second child, Carrie, two years later. He devoted his life to his family. He was a loyal and supportive husband. That type of father who never missed a sports game and a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren Alex, Anna, Olivia and Brynn.
From a young age, he learned the importance of working hard; focusing his efforts on whatever needed to be done to provide for the people in his life. He enlisted in the Army shortly after highschool, then solidified a career path as a heavy equipment operator for twenty-three years at Bath Iron Works. Following his career he volunteered his time to support his wife's ceramic business. Later on in life he and his wife Cynthia purchased a motorhome and spent winters in Florida where they made lasting friendships. Steve had a passion for working on automobiles, racing, helping people and most of all his family.
The roar of an engine was always music to his ears. Steven developed his passion for racing in his younger years that lasted his entire life. During these years he spent time building and driving his own cars, helping many others along the way offering his knowledge and mechanical skills. Eventually his son began racing and years later his first grandson took the wheel. Steven was always willing to help a competitor in any way he could.
Steven was an honest, humble, and simple man. He was the sensible voice that brought reason. He was reliable and trustworthy, which made it easy for people to go to him often. Steven would truly give the shirt off his back to those he loved. He claimed many titles such as husband, father, brother, friend, and "The Mayor", because wherever he went someone knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Galen Wilson Sr., stepmother Victoria Wilson, mother Barbara Hartford, stepfather Lyle Hartford and brother Galen Wilson Jr. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Wilson, his children Steven Wilson Jr. (Laura Wilson), Carrie Maria (Matthew Maria) and four grandchildren Alex Wilson, Anna Wilson as well as Olivia and Brynn Maria. He leaves behind a brother Ronald Wilson (Jan Wilson), and four sisters Pattie Wilson (Gary Lee), Lori Lauckner (Steven Lauckner), Paula Dunn (Dennis Dunn), Susan Littlefield (Doug Littlefield), and a brother in law and four sister in laws who he cared for dearly.
