Steven Wayne Wilson

Steven Wayne Wilson, age 75, of Hale, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 6, 1950, in Omer, to the late Wayne and Barbara (Bean) Wilson. Steve was one of four children.
Steve was a lifelong resident of Hale. After high school he attended Central Michigan University where he acquired his master's degree. He taught high school mathematics for Tawas Area Schools for 32 years before retiring in 2005. He also spent many years coaching track and field in Tawas and youth soccer in Hale.
Steve married the love of his life, Carole (Calverley) Wilson, on Oct. 27, 1979, and they had over 46 years of marriage together. He was an outdoorsman, and loved hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing – his family would say that he was the only person they knew that loved the winter.
He was a skilled carpenter; Loon Lake is dotted with houses that he helped work on, restore, keep up, and, as was the case for his family's home, built from the ground up. Steve was also an excellent mechanic and auto body man; he loved to restore antique motorcycles and cars and amassed quite a collection of his favorites. In his younger years, he raced motorcycles on both the flat track and ice track, and several trophies bearing his number "64W" hang in his well-stocked (but slightly crowded) garage(s). He was also an avid reader and loved challenging (and often besting) the contestants while watching "Jeopardy!"
Steve is survived by his wife, Carole: sons, Bradley (Brad Borkhardt) Wilson and Bryant (Emily) Wilson; daughter, Molly Wilson; brothers, Bruce (Mary) Wilson and Kurt (Lisa) Wilson; sister, Diane (Kirk) Rasch; grandchildren, Elizabeth "Izzy," Lola, and Avery; aunt, Olive Streeter; and many nieces and nephews.
Steven wass preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Richard J. and Marion E. Calverley; and his aunts and uncles, including his dear Aunt Audrey Kocher.
Services celebrating Steve's life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale. Family will greet visitors at 10:30 a.m., with a Mass to follow at 11 a.m.
