Stevenson Lee Schroeder, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Chamblissburg, Virginia, on December 12, 2025.
Steve was born in
Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 1967 and grew up in Virginia Beach, where he developed a deep admiration for the ocean. He loved being near the water and found his greatest sense of peace there. Whether standing along the shore, out on a boat, or simply watching the waves roll in, the water was where his heart felt most at home.
Steve had a remarkable gift for connecting with others. Family, friends, and even strangers were drawn to his kindness, easy smile, and genuine interest in their lives. A contractor by trade, he completed projects throughout the valley. He took pride in his work and enjoyed meeting new people-many of whom became lifelong friends.
Above all else, Steve cherished his family. He never missed a birthday, a cookout, or an opportunity to spend time together. His humorous side kept the family laughing and will be fondly remembered.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lee Schroeder, and his best buddy, Jack the Cat. He is survived by his mother, Mary Schroeder; his brother, Robert Schroeder, and wife Laura; his sister, Maryanne Kirby, and husband Darren; his brother, Rick Schroeder; his nieces, Anna Schroeder, Laken Schroeder, and Allison Kirby; his nephews, Joe Schroeder and Paxton Kirby; and many friends, including his longtime partner, Candice Cooper.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in
Daleville, Virginia. The family will receive friends at 1 pm, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Steve's honor.
