Stuart John Gray – Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend

Stuart Gray cherished his family, lived through his art and was a passionate creator, spending most of his free time entranced by his latest project or mastering a new skill. He loved music, softball, racquetball, fishing and skiing and, perhaps most of all, enjoyed lively debate and stimulating conversation with family and friends. Surrounded by his family, Stuart died peacefully at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital on December 4, 2025.

Stuart was born on October 21, 1939 in Cloquet, Minnesota to John & Bette Gray. He graduated from Birmingham High School and received his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Soon afterward, he met Lydia Jane Schaeffer and they married on June 22, 1968. They shared a loving, committed marriage for over 57 years and raised two children together. Stuart was father to Eric and Peter, grandfather to Ava and Estelle and father-in-law to Eric's wife Audrey. He was brother to Tim, Edward, Sheila (Kelley), Marcee and Sarah (Blanton).

Stuart was an engineer by education but an artist by nature. Around 1980 he committed his efforts to art full-time and became an accomplished ceramicist specializing in crystalline porcelain. His art has been featured in many prominent festivals and galleries and has been collected by many.

Family will receive friends Saturday, December 13, 11:30AM-1PM, with Memorial Service at 1PM, at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home (Vasu, Rodgers and Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave, Royal Oak (between 13 Mile and 14 Mile).
