Mitchell Family Funeral Home - MarshalltownStuart Jones, age 70 of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025 with his wife at his side at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Stuart Mcleod Jones was born December 16, 1954 in Toronto, Canada to Thomas and Margaret (Freeman) Jones. At an early age, he and his family moved from Canada to Marshalltown, Iowa where they made their home along with his two older brothers. Stuart attended Marshalltown Community High School where he was a graduate of the Class of 1974. He furthered his education at Iowa State University where he studied photography.
On September 11, 1993, Stuart was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice Gregory (Godwin) in Melbourne, Iowa. From their union he gained two sons, Matthew and Daniel. Stuart was a hard worker and over his career he was employed at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Hy-Vee in Marshalltown, Culvers, and Target in Ankeny until the time of his retirement. He had a passion for outdoor photography and had his own studio where he took photographs as often as he could. Outside of work, he was a member of New Hope Christian Church and Christian Motorcyclist Association.
In his free time, Stuart loved the outdoors. He loved taking rides on his motorcycle and going on kayak and canoe adventures. He also enjoyed going hiking, camping, and traveling to his favorite places being to the North Shore in Minnesota and Door County Wisconsin. Ryden’s Boarder Store and Cabela’s were places he enjoyed visiting on their trips to Minnesota. Additionally, he enjoyed having a diet Mountain Dew as often as possible and attending his granddaughters’ activities.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Janice Jones; his step sons, Matthew (Janese) Gregory and Daniel (Andrea) Gregory; granddaughters, Valerie, Veronica, Vanessa, Elise, Phoebe, Kailynn and Haylin. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Cherie Jones and his nephew, Tommy Jones and his daughter.
In Eternal Life, he is rejoined by his parents Thomas and Margaret Jones; his brothers, Tommy Jones and Chris Jones; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Memorial Services for Stuart will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at New Hope Christian Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Stuart’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation.
