Sue Proctor Cullifer, 76, the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, was called home on March 19, 2026. Sue was a woman who loved fiercely, spoke plainly, and lived without apology for what she believed. She held her family to a standard because she loved them too much to do otherwise, and she extended that same fierce, generous love to her church, her community, and everyone fortunate enough to fall within her reach. Though her final days brought their own quiet battles, she faced them with the same grit and grace that defined her life.
Sue was born in Elm City, NC on April 28, 1949 to Walter Daniel Proctor and Emma Blanche Proctor. She was the devoted wife of the late Reverend Samuel Louis Cullifer, Sr., and for fifty years stood faithfully beside him in ministry and in life. Her faith was not confined to Sunday mornings -- it showed up in how she raised her children, how she kept her household, and how she carried herself before God and the people around her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Louis Cullifer, Sr, and her siblings: Mavis Harrell (Jonas), Mary Joyner, Walter Ray Proctor, and Janice Proctor. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Cullifer Joyner; son, Samuel Louis Cullifer, Jr.; grandchildren, Luke Cullifer, Zoe Cullifer, and Victoria Joyner along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, at 3:00 pm at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro. Burial will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Carlisle Funeral Home.
