Sue Anne (Godden) Gitchell,73, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2022 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. She was born in Burr Oak, Michigan, a daughter of the late Clesson Dale and Hazel Janice Godden.
Sue was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Moose and the Lake Anna Islanders. She greatly enjoyed camping, boating, colorizing, writing letters, riding motorcycles, and just simply living life to the fullest. Sue Anne will be remembered for her social personality; she never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Leonard G. Gitchell, Sr and her brother, Clesson Dale "Bud" Godden, Jr.
Survivors include her children, Leonard Gregory Gitchell, II, and wife, Melissa Lynn Morris-Gitchell of Stuarts Draft and Jennifer Anne (Gitchell) Rusmisel and husband, Justin Allen Rusmisel of Staunton; six grandchildren: Jarrett Francis, Arielle Gitchell, Sierra (Gitchell) Case, Gregory Camden, Jackson Rusmisel and Taden Rusmisel; five great grandchildren; siblings, Lois Mullet of Tennessee and Mathew Godden of Illinois; as well as extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sue's memory to the Stuarts Draft Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 548, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477 and the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 260, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477.
