Sue Della Macon

Sue Della Hendrix Macon was born on September 6, 1919 in Newnan, Georgia to the union of Louis and Sarah Hendrix. Sue was the second oldest daughter of 16 children.Sue was baptized at an early age at Heard Western AME Church in Newnan. Orphaned at a relatively young age, Sue was then raised by her older brother. In the early 1950's Sue, along with her young son Milton, relocated to Seattle with her brother Johnny, who was in search of employment. Shortly after, Johnny introduced his sister to his friend and co-worker, Iverson Macon. The two were soon married, and added another son, Jackie, to their small family.Sue united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in the late 1950's, under the pastorate of the late founder Rev. Dr. C.E. Williams. Sue was an active member of the Ruth Circle, one of New Hope's early Missions. She remained active with the Mission Department for many years. Sue was not a joiner, but was an ardent supporter of her church and the numerous activities of the church until her health prohibited her participation.Although her education ended in seventh grade, Sue held positions at Pentagram Janitorial, Troy Laundry and Cleaners, American Linen Supply, and as a domestic. Sue enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, attending church and gardening. Her son Jackie recalls her working in the garden and says she "had a green thumb".Sue was always a very giving, helping, kind and generous person. She was known to say: "If I like you, you'd know it; if I don't, you'd know it".Sue was preceded in death by both parents, all of her siblings, her son Milton, and her husband. She is survived by her son Jackie; grandson Dante Leon Hill; great-granddaughter Tayleona Hill; sisters-in-law Ruthell Hendrix and Nellie Ruth Hendrix; devoted friend and neighbor Louise Morris; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove!For then would I fly away, and be at rest.Psalms 55:6
