Sue McDaniel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2026.
Sue McDaniel (Volin), passed away on November 22, 2025, at her home in Mound City, Kansas, at the age of 78. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness left a lasting imprint on all who knew her.

Born on May 9, 1947, in Lyons, Kansas, Sue was the daughter of Milton and Jean Volin of Hutchinson. She graduated from Lyons High School and went on to earn her college degree from Allen County Community College. Her education laid the foundation for a life marked by compassion, service, and deep devotion to her family and faith.

Sue shared a loving life with her husband, Donald McDaniel, at their home. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Jane Magathan Krone and partner Jamie Krone of Mound City; her sister Judy Volin of LaVerne, California; and her brother Jim Volin and his wife Marilyn of Hutchinson. Sue was a proud grandmother to David Krone of Emporia and Kaden Krone of Garnett. She also held a special place in her heart for her great goddaughter Helen Moyer of Ottawa.

A devoted Methodist, Sue's faith was central to her life. She was an active member of Union Chapel Church of Princeton and volunteered for many years at the after-school program at Lane Methodist Church. Her dedication to nurturing young minds reflected the same warmth she extended to everyone around her.

Sue had a deep love for animals-especially her beloved cat Zaboo-and found joy in simple pleasures like watching crime shows on television or cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. But above all else, she cherished time spent with her grandsons. Whether attending their events or simply being present in their lives, Sue was an involved and loving Nana whose support never wavered.

Those who knew Sue remember her as one of the kindest souls they ever met-a woman who always thought of others before herself. Even as her health declined, she remained more concerned about the well-being of those around her than her own condition. Her passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Jean Volin. Though she is no longer with us in body, the memory of her hugs, laughter, and boundless love continues to bring comfort to those she touched.

May Sue's legacy of kindness live on through the lives she so deeply impacted.
