Sue Ann Mellenthin, 61, of Quincy, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Liberty Village of Pittsfield.
Sue, born December 17, 1963, in Alton, IL, was the daughter of Richard Mellenthin and Judith (Smith) Lilly.
Survivors include her four children, Erin Calvo (Lee William) of Quincy, Amanda Bainter (Floyd) of Payson, Shaun Newbrough of Quincy, and Amber Griffith of Glenarm, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Angel Calvo, Jimmy Calvo, Junior Mairena, Damien Calvo, Korbin Bainter, Kray Bainter, Makenzie Brown, Dawsyn Bainter, Fayth Bainter, Calli Bainter, Hannah Meek, Zoe Meek, Camden Meek, and Moriah Meek; one great-grandchild, Joseline Calvo; her parents, Judith and Wayne Lilly; one brother, Thom Landers (Tricia); one sister, Linda Wilson (Danny); and several nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her biological father, Richard Mellenthin, and her step-father that she loved as a father, Thomas Griffith.
Sue worked for many years as a waitress at Maid Rite and Pizza Hut. She was also a cab driver and made many meaningful connections with her customers. She was a member of Madison Park Christian Church.
Outside of her work commitments, Sue was a woman of diverse interests and talents. She was a familiar face at St. Boniface, The Elks Club, and the Eagles Club, where her love for bingo brought smiles and laughter to many evenings. Her passion for reading was evident in her choice of books, with Danielle Steele and the Bible being some of her favorites. Music was another of Sue's great loves, with the melodies of country and oldies artists like Conway Twitty, Alan Jackson, and Faith Hill often filling her home.
Television shows such as "Texas Walker Ranger," "Law and Order," and "Everybody Loves Raymond" were among her preferred ways to unwind, providing countless hours of entertainment and relaxation. In the kitchen, Sue enjoyed crafting dishes like her homemade mac and cheese and tuna noodle casserole, and her love for ice cream and milkshakes was well-known.
Sue's intellectual side shone through in her love for crosswords, and she was always up for a friendly challenge in board games like Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Rummy. But above all, Sue's heart belonged to her family. She was a beacon of love and support, always ensuring that her grandchildren knew just how much they meant to her with her signature phrase, "Grandma Loves You." Her presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
