Sue Ellen Steinmetz

Sue Ellen Steinmetz, 81, of Herrin, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Deaconess Regional Healthcare in Marion, IL.
Sue worked and retired from Herrin Hospital as house keeping after 20 plus years.
Sue was born on December 31, 1943 in Tomah, WI to Raymond & Virginia (Montgomery) Barton.
She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.
She was united in marriage to Louis Junior Steinmetz on June 3, 1961 at St. Joe's Catholic Church in Marion, IL. He survives her at their home in Herrin.
Other survivors include daughter, Rita & Ed Neulist of Barnhart, MO; sons, Michael & Katherine Steinmetz of Hurst, IL and John & Candy Steinmetz of Carterville, IL; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Patrick R. Steinmetz; two grandsons, David Joseph Wagley and Christopher Combs; brother-in-law, Martin Steinmetz; and sister-in-law, Lilian Leeds.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home with Fr. Mark D. Reyling officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin, IL. Memorial donations may be made to OLMC New School Fund, 316 West Monroe Street, Herrin, IL 62948. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
