Clover, SC – Mrs. Sue Spencer Thompson, born on September 15, 1939, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the age of 86. She was a lifelong resident of York County and resided in Clover for the past 50 years.
Sue dedicated most of her career to the textile industry, but her true passions lay in the joys of a well-lived home life. She was a talented hobbyist who enjoyed sewing and making crafts, and gardening. Sue looked forward to her annual beach trips with her two sisters, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved to dance and was a devoted fan of country music, with favorites including Elvis Presley, Conway Twitty, Alan Jackson, and George Jones. Her favorite pastime was sitting on her front porch with her late husband of 61 years watching the birds, particularly "her" hummingbirds.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Austin Thompson; her mother, Alliene Hull Dover and her brothers, Jack Dover, Roy Joseph Dover and Thomas Ray Dover.
Sue is survived by her loving children: Suzanne Erwin (Wesley), Troy Thompson, and Tracy McCarter; her loving grandchildren: Ben Erwin (Olivia), Hunter Thompson, Caroline Thompson Ghent (Kyle), Casey Thompson, Kyle McCarter, and Cameron McCarter; and her loving great-grandchildren: Tallulah McCarter and Ella Mae McCarter. In addition, she is also survived by her siblings: Colene Young, Frankie Cain, Bob Dover, Bill Dover, Rick Dover and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
