Sukhrajie Deodat

Sukhrajie Deodat "Om Namah Shivaya". Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Sukhrajie (Sheila) Deodat passed away on Thursday, February 20th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Sheila was born on May 19th, 1950, in Corentyne Berbice, Guyana. She was the 4th child of Sanjharia Lauhar and Lauhar Ranjattan. She was one of twelve siblings. As a child, she loved school and tending to her younger siblings. She married Deodat (Bob) Gopie on February 27th, 1966, and migrated to the United States in 1973. Sheila and Bob would have five children: Nanda, Patsy, Mukesh, Diana, and Chris. She would have ten grandchildren whom she adored: Stephanie, Sabrina, Rohan Jr., Jonathan, Devindra, Dhilan, Devesh, Ehan, Sophia, and Emma. Sheila was talented as an artist in many ways when it came to sewing curtains, floral arrangements, painting landscapes, and crafting. She loved bird watching, gardening, cooking for her family, doing yoga, being by the ocean, and taking road trips with her family. Sheila is survived by her loving husband, Bob, her five children, ten grandchildren, and her six siblings, Mono, Kawall, Shanta, Brodo, Kesho, and Indira. Sheila was a woman of quiet dignity, compassion, and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation and wake service celebrating her life will be held at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home in Somerville, NJ, on Sunday, February 23rd, from 3 pm to 8 pm. On Monday, February 24th, 2025, the last Hindu Rites will be given at 9 am at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, and the burial will take place at Somerset Hills Memorial Park and Mausoleum, 95 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ at 12pm. A repass lunch will follow at 1:15pm at Hills of Herat, 665 Martinsville Road, Basking Ridge.
