Col. Suryakumar "Suri" Rajaram

Colonel Suryakumar (Suri) Rajaram, age 79, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026 in his daughter's home.
Leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, service, sacrifice, and unconditional love for his family.

Born in Chennai, India in 1946, Suri had a lively childhood surrounded by extended family. Though a hard-working student, he was also very social and fun. He successfully completed medical school and worked as a railway doctor. In 1970, he married his wife, Jayakumari Rajaram. In 1974, the couple bravely left everyone and everything they knew and immigrated to the United States. With courage and determination, Suri built a life rooted in providing for his family and serving the community. He had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Colonel and serving as the Chief of Pediatrics. He devoted his career to healing children, mentoring others, and leading with discipline and integrity.

While his professional accomplishments were significant, Suri's greatest joy and proudest role was that of husband, father, and grandfather. He worked tirelessly and planned carefully in order to provide for his family. He was a loyal and dedicated caregiver to his wife. He was the most loving and involved father to his daughter, Kavitha Johnson and her husband John Johnson. There was not a day that went by that she didn't feel completely loved by him. He carried that love to his grandchildren, Addison, Micah, and Gray Johnson, who brought him immense pride and joy. His happiest moments were those in which he was surrounded by his family sharing a meal, traveling, watching them play a sport, or going to the movies. He trusted in God's promises and taught his daughter to do so, just as his mother taught him. He was an avid animal lover, who cherished and spoiled all the pets he had throughout his life.

Suri will not only be remembered for his impact as a doctor, but along with his wife, he helped many extended family members build a life in the United States. His gentle heart, quiet strength, and the love he poured into his family will shine through many generations. Though he has gone to eternal rest with Jesus, his love remains forever present, and his legacy lives on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2026 in Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial with Military Honors will be private in Albert G. Horton, Jr Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.
