Dr. Susan White Chastain, a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated teacher and pediatrician, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 73. She was born on February 5, 1952, to Horace and Doris Frost.
Sue poured her heart into everything she did. She was a tremendous role model not only for her children, but for countless others, as she exemplified the courage to pursue one's dreams at any stage of life. After a rewarding 19 year career as an elementary school teacher, she chose to follow her dream of becoming a pediatrician. She completed her post-baccalaureate studies while her children were in high school and began medical school at the Medical College of Georgia when her youngest left for college. Over the years, many of her former students entrusted their own children to her care. She practiced at Georgetown Pediatrics for 24 years and was a dedicated advocate for her patients. She was also a proud Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. A loving and generous soul, Sue gave deeply of herself to her friends, her students, her colleagues, her patients, and especially her family.
Sue was blessed with two wonderful marriages. She was first happily married to Charlie White, who predeceased her in 1992. Later, she shared 26 beautiful years with her husband, Ernie Chastain, building a life filled with love, joy, partnership, and family. She was a devoted mother to her children Chip White and Beth White, as well as Jenny Kelsey and her husband, Tyler, Megan Smith and her husband, Bryan. She took immeasurable pride in her role as "Nana." Her grandchildren Charlie, Parker, and Finlee White, Olivia and Emmy Kelsey, Walker and Rosie Smith, Caroline and Katelynn White were the light of her life. She delighted in cooking, crafting, and creating cherished memories with them at their home on the ocean in Boston and their home on Berkeley Lake. They will forever remember the love she poured into them.
Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Thomson. She is survived by her loving sisters, Betty Bruce and Nancy Riggs, who remained cherished companions throughout her life.
A celebration of Sue's life will be held on January 3RD from 2pm till 5pm at the Berkeley Lake Chapel and Pavilion. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of an extraordinary and inspirational woman whose legacy of kindness, teaching, and healing will continue to touch lives for generations.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her honor to the YMCA Camp Greenville Scholarship Fund, https://www.ymcagreenville.org/foundation
Dr. Susan White Chastain lived her life with determination, passion, and grace. She touched countless lives and encouraged many to pursue their dreams with courage and heart. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing and an enduring inspiration.

We are so heartbroken to hear of the passing of our beloved Dr Chastain. She was our pediatrician for 24 years. She was the best and most caring person. I considered her more than just a pediatrician, but also a friend. All 5 of our children loved her and trusted her! She taught and empowered our children to be able to talk to a doctor and express and describe what they were feeling. She encouraged them to always think about the choices they had and to make good ones. Even as they aged out of pediatrics, Dr Chastain always asked about each one of them by name. She even came to an event to support one of my children in Atlanta several years ago. Our condolences to her family whom she loved so much and bragged about often. May the wisdom and love that she shared with her co-workers, staff, patients, friends and family be a long-lasting legacy and inpsiration to all who knew her.

Dr. Chastain was my kid´s pediatrician for the past 11yrs. She was the most caring and attentive to every detail of my kids growth. She always went above and beyond on her dedication and always made us feel important and special. Always ending our appointments with "tell me something I don´t know about your son". If my kids were sick she always texted me afterwards to check on how they were doing. When she told us her journey of being a teacher first and then how she went to become a doctor I admired her perseverance and dedication. She will be missed and I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to get to know her. Praying for her family.

We will deeply miss Dr. Chastain, she was an amazing pediatrician and have treated us like family for almost 6 years. Our girls knew to ask for "monkey" and she would much oblige. She would allow her parents to call/ text her any time, if a kiddo was sick. I am sure her family knows just how wonderful she is, but we were truly blessed to have found a doctor that would listen. The way she encouraged parents to be the best they could be and never put them down is unmatched. Dr. Chastain we love you and will always remember the lasting impact you left in our lives.

I am incredibly sorry to hear of Dr. Chastain passing. I not only called her doctor, but friend. She took care of my three children since they were born as if they were her own. She will be greatly missed. I am praying for peace and hearts to be comforted.
