Susan Erstad Obituary
Susan Sillis was born July 12, 1942, in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England to Richard and Jessie May (Sizen) Sillis. She grew up and attended school there and began her career as a Stenographer until meeting a handsome American Airman named Gerald Erstad. They were married at St. Margaret's Church in her hometown on March 17, 1962. Their nearly 64-year love story has taken them across the globe. They moved many times to Air Force Bases all over before finally receiving long-awaited orders for Grand Forks Air Force Base. This would be where they would finally put down their roots. They made their home in East Grand Forks in 1976. Sue was a long-time employee of JCPenney where she retired from in 2003. Together they enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time on Cass Lake where they were part-owners of Break on the Lake Resort.
Susan is survived by her husband Gerald Erstad of East Grand Forks; children Paul Erstad (Loni, significant other) of Rapid City, SD, and Melonie (Kevin) Moen of Grand Forks; grandchildren Allecia (Randy) Zaske of Rapid City, SD, Jessica Moen of Grand Forks, and Lucas Moen of Minneapolis; and great-grandchildren McKensie Malone and Quinten Zaske of Rapid City, SD; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Donella Erstad, sister-in-law, Marilyn Erstad, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Jessie (Sizen) Sillis and in-laws, Miles and Mae (Benson) Erstad; brother-in-law Orville Erstad and brother-in-law Richard Erstad.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday March 14, 2026, at 2:00pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1515 5th Ave. NW. East Grand Forks, MN 56721. Service will be live streamed on Susan's page. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to the Altru Cancer Center in Grand Forks, ND or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at the Church.
INTERMENT: Resurrection Cemetery of East Grand Forks, MN.
