Obituary of Susan Mary Flood

Susan Mary Flood passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, in Chatham, New Jersey. She was 82 years old.

Susan was born on June 24, 1943, in Irvington to the late John Jacob Flood and Margaret Hagel Flood. She grew up in Short Hills and later made her home in New Vernon, where she was a devoted parishioner of Christ the King Church.

A graduate of Bayley-Ellard High School, Class of 1961, Susan began her career as a secretary with Beneficial Finance in Morristown. Her creative spirit eventually led her to become a self-employed floral designer, a role that perfectly reflected her love of flowers, gardening, and artistic expression. Susan had a natural eye for beauty and took great joy in creating floral arrangements that brought happiness to others.

Family was at the heart of Susan's life. She was deeply close to her siblings and cherished time spent together. She found joy in life's simple pleasures such as summers at the beach, peaceful time spent in Cape Cod, tending to her garden, and being surrounded by those she loved most.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved siblings John Flood and his wife Eleanor, Cindy Cassidy and her husband Joseph, Pamela Cassidy and her husband James, and Sheilah Figliolini and her husband John; sixteen nieces and nephews; twenty-eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends who will miss her kindness, creativity, and gentle presence.

Susan will be remembered for her loving heart, creative soul, and unwavering devotion to family and faith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Susan on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 16 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon.

Susan will be laid to rest at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Susan's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
