Susan D. (Cole) Kelly
Sue Kelly, 75 passed away on 10/11/2023 in Zionsville, Indiana. She was born in Garrett, Indiana to Joseph and Dolores Cole. She was preceded in death by two sons, Joe and Ryan, and by sister Joanne and brother Lonnie. Survivors include husband Art, daughter Debbie, son Dan, granddaughter Autumn (Harry) Ellis, and great-granddaughters Hazel and Harper Ellis. Also surviving are Brothers Byron, Rick, and Kent, and sisters Jodi and Kara.
Sue graduated from North Side High School in FT Wayne, Indiana in 1965. She obtained a B.S. degree in Medical Technology in 1969, an M.S. degree in Allied Health Science in 1978, and a Certification in Secondary Education Science Education in 1993, all from Indiana University. She spent her career working in the Clinical and management areas of medical laboratory science at Indiana University, St Vincent Hospitals, and The Care Group physicians. Sue lived a life of purpose by helping others through decades of volunteer work with many organizations, including pet therapy and 25 years volunteering in Hospice.
Her favorite time was spent as a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, time with family and friends was precious, especially traveling, camping, playing board games, and watching sports. Very special years in her life were spent caring for her granddaughter. She also enjoyed outdoor activities including biking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, gardening, and sightseeing even into her senior years. She wouldn’t let health limitations keep her down.
Services will be private. Burial is at Washington Park North Cemetery, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House (rmhccin.org), St Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), or St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46228 (stmonicaindy.org).
