Susan Elaine Spillman Martin was born to Cecil and Tommie Spillman on August 9, 1947. She attended Hunter Public School and Northwestern State College, where she lacked one class of getting her Physical Education degree. She would not take the swimming class needed because she did not want to put her head underwater.
While at Northwestern she met the love of her life, Bruce Martin, and they were married on July 12, 1969 at the Hunter Christian Church. To this union were born two daughters, Tammie Costello of Waukomis and Wendi Conrady of Wakita. Susan and Bruce were always at their children's events whether it was a church youth group activity, leading 4-H, stock shows or her favorite, ball games.
Susan worked as a substitute teacher for many years and then went to work for 20 years at Pioneer Telephone Company in Helena where she retired in 2008.
When grandchildren, Thomas Conrady, Racer and Layni Costello, came along they became her priority and some of her biggest joys. She delighted in going to their activities and watching them grow up.
Faith was very important to Susan. Growing up she accepted Christ and joined the Hunter Christian Church where she was a member until she and Bruce moved to Aline, where they were members of the Aline United Methodist Church for many years, and the recently they moved their membership to the Carmen Community Church.
Susan is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bruce Martin of the home; her brother, Leroy Spillman of Enid; her two daughters, Tammie Costello and Wendi (Douglas) Conrady; her grandkids, Thomas, Racer, and Layni and friends and family too numerous to count.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, her in-laws and one sister, Mary Minnick Reiss.
