Susan O'Connor, 97, a proud resident of Katonah, N.Y., died peacefully September 19, 2024, at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Susan was born December 4, 1926, in Oneonta, N.Y. to the late Maria DiSalvitore and Joseph Schillace.
Susan was a graduate of Bedford Hills High School, and earned a medical technician certification from Pace University.
While working for Dr. Ernie Wilcox in Westchester County, N.Y., she met and fell in love with Fred O'Connor of Pleasantville, N.Y.. They married on August 14, 1949. They had a loving marriage of 48 years, until Fred's passing on August 27, 1997.
Together, Sue and Fred owned and operated Katonah Publishing on Edgemont Road, until they retired in 1985.
Sue was a member of St. Matthias Church in Bedford Hills, St. Mary's Church in Katonah, Katonah Museum of Art, and her beloved Women's Civic Club of Katonah. For many years after retiring, every Friday, Sue could be found joyfully greeting customers and uplifting co-workers.
Susan will be fondly remembered for her love of family, friends, and neighbors, her positive outlook on life, and her unwavering concern for others. She had an open invitation to join her on her porch. She touched all who knew her.
Sue's mantra was: "Let me live in a house by the side of the road, and be a friend to man".
Susan is the loving mother of Patrick (Arlene) of Pawling, N.Y., and Jeffrey (Deborah) of Patterson, N.Y.. She is the proud grandmother of Ethan (Erica), Henry (Valois), and Laurene Nickerson.
