Susan Olvera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 28, 2020.
Susan Leah (West) Olvera, 43, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2020 in Wake Forest, North Carolina after a long battle with brain cancer. She was at home, surrounded in the love of her family by her side when she left this world. She burst into the world on January 5, 1977 to her parents Rick and Brenda and continued taking the world by storm throughout her life. Susan loved her family and friends deeply. She enjoyed spending time surrounded by nature, relishing in all creation, nurturing plants and animals of all kinds. She was a passionate supporter of equality for all, the rights of the oppressed, and battled injustice when and where she saw it. A devoted mother, sister, daughter, aunt, friend and wife, Susan leaves all she loved with the everlasting imprint of her presence in their lives. She leaves a void that none can fill, but her unique laugh will resonate in our hearts in blessed memory of the light and joy she brought to this earth. She faced her cancer with grace and dignity, choosing positivity over despair and gratitude over fear, urging all around her to do the same. Susan is survived by her loving husband Rigoberto and their son Mikey, along with her sisters, step-brother, many nieces and nephews, her grandfather Jerry, her father Rick West, mother Brenda Ruiz, and step-mother Teresa West. She was preceded in death by her step-father Larry Hamm. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the family has decided to postpone a Celebration of Life for Susan until the Spring of 2021.

Happy early birthday to my sweet friend who gave me dandelions for the rest of my life to make wishes upon wishes. I wish you so much love and joy in your spirited experience. I love you always

Sweet Susan! You are sorely missed. Yet there isn't a day that doesn't go by that you don't show up in some way. Sometimes I see a faint image of you smiling, or a little red cardinal will appear...not to mention that every wish that flies by represents you. I love you, my friend.

Susan's spirit shows up quite frequently in my life. She may come to me as the little red cardinal, there may be a fleeting image of her smile, or I may hear her laughing. I didn't know Susan for very long but I know how she impacted me and her friendship was magical, her being, authentic. I miss you daily, Susie Q...not a wish doesn't fly by me without saying hello.

Susan's spirit shows up daily in my life. If it's not through the little red cardinal, it may be through a fleeting thought, an image of her smile, or hearing her laugh. I didn't have the opportunity to know her as many blessed did, but I have never received an impact from someone as I did with Susan. She touched my life in a way that is only described as authentic and magical. I love and miss you daily Susan. Every wish I see, I see you. Until we meet again my friend! Much love to her family.

Susan, I can't believe it has been a year. It doesn't seem possible, maybe because your SP club talk about you so often! You are forever in our minds and our hearts. We do miss you sooo much.

There's no way to express my sadness in hearing about Susan's death and yet no way to express just what a wonderful woman she was. I had lost touch with Susan after her initial diagnosis and I was just so happy to have reconnected with this past year during Covid. I was happy to pick her up for coffee and had she was so thankful when I gave her yarn and a crochet needle to see if this was something she could enjoy with her new limitations. I was able to share with her my favorite swim spot off at Beaverdam Lake which she enjoyed with her family and the last time I saw her we were splashing around in the cove having a great time. I didn't hear from her and when I googled her name looking for her address I found her obituary. My heart aches for Rigo and Mikey and all of us who will miss her so. God bless you, dear girl..I know you are with the angels. Until we meet again. xoxo

Susan was an amazing person, wife, mother and friend that will surely be missed. Her smile, laughter, passion for life and others has left an eternal imprint on those who knew her. She gave her love freely and inspired others to find their inner joy, beauty and courage to embrace life. I miss you dearly.

Susan, I am so sorry we can't have more time. That Mikey can't have more time with you. That Rigo can't have more time with you. I see all you have instilled in Mikey. What an amazing Mother, Friend, Sister you were and I am so honored to have been by your Mama Friend during this time. You dear friend are and were so freaking amazing. All that you brought into this world. All that you were and all that you will continue to be as star in our sky. I will miss you and our talks. And know that you have created some healthy Mama bonds here to help look after your little man. I love you!
