She was a fierce competitor, and loved to play golf, tennis, ping-pong and cards. Her love for the color purple, butterflies, and embroidered sweaters were well-known among her friends and family. Susan was also a devoted mother to her four sons, Michael (Gina), Eric (Lia), David (Sarah), and Brian (Sarah), and a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren. Her role as a grandmother was filled with joy, often seen playing with her grandchildren or introducing them to new Lego kits.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Edgar Bowerman. She is survived by her friend and former husband, F. Michael Payne, her brother, Bruce L. Bowerman, her sons and daughters-in-law, her nephew, and her adoring grandchildren.
