Susan Pike Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home - Poughkeepsie on Feb. 15, 2026.
Susan J. Pike passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10th at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was predeceased by her parents Charlotte and Raymond Pike Jr. and her brothers Stephen and Charles and his wife Donna.

She is survived by her brothers Thomas of Wappingers Falls and John (Peggy) of Red Hook and sisters Carol Versace and Ann Shea (Jason) of Poughkeepsie. She is also survived by her dog Millie, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.

Susan was the Assistant Zoning Administrator of Wappingers Falls and the Zoning Administrator of the Town of Poughkeepsie for a combined 35 plus years. During that time she helped countless residents and businesses throughout with their needs. Because of this she got the nickname of Mayor by friends because it seemed like everywhere she went she knew everyone there. She definitely earned the love and respect of many. She also managed the Animal Control department and of course ended up adopting several of the strays that were wandering the streets. Susan adored all animals, but especially her pets. She was teased by people who said in their next life they wanted to come back as one of her pets. She also adopted animals from local shelters as well and always had a menagerie of fur babies.

She loved her muscle cars and going to car shows. In her younger years she owned a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner and a 1970 Plymouth 'cuda. Later on she developed a love for the Dodge Charger and owned several of them including her current baby a 2015 Charger SXT Rallye in mint condition that she proudly showed off at car shows.

She was also a very talented crochet artist who entered dozens of her masterpieces in the Dutchess County Fair every year winning blue and red ribbons every time. Her family and friends were the lucky recipients of these treasures over the years and will cherish them forever.

Susan loved ladybugs and the color red. Anyone who knew her can attest to that. Her house, car, office and wardrobe were full of both. She also ironically passed between Go Red for Women day and Valentine's Day rather appropriately.

She was generous to a fault and loved giving gifts to those she loved. If she knew you liked something you can bet that you'd be getting that for your next birthday or holiday gift. She also donated to many deserving charities and was a monthly supporter of the ASPCA. She was a loving philanthropic soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Vassar Brothers Medical Center ICU and 7 North Unit. During her final days she received extraordinary care and compassion from everyone who came in contact with her.

Visitation for Susan will be on Monday, February 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Because of Susan's love of animals in lieu of flowers, you may donate to the ASPCA or your favorite local animal shelter.

Sad to hear of her passing. I used to enjoy stopping by to chat a little when she was working the office. She was a nice neighbor and will be missed. Our condolences to her family. Sincerely, Laurie and Eric
