Dear Reed Karen and Family,

I grew up listening to your mother's beautiful recordings and attending her magical concerts. Later, I was trained as a publicist by your grandmother, Isadora Bennett; and through her, I met your mother, father, and even you as a child. I have one of your mother's delightful collages in my living room. I am only sorry that after your grandmother's death I lost touch with your mother, who was such a special person.

With my deepest sympathy,

I am truly sorry for your loss. Your tears are not unnoticed by Our Heavenly Father. Although your deep pain will not easily disappear, prayer to God will bring comfort to you as you grieve. The Bible assures us God "is healing the broken hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spot." Psalm 147:3 Please accept my deepest sympathy.

I first listened to a Susan Reed record in 1956, and was so taken with it that I purchased it, and still listen to it It is so sad that she is gone. I will always remember her pure voice.

My condolences are for the Reed family at this time of sadness. The Bible tells us: "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." One of the principal ways to draw close to God is through prayer.

Susan had lots of talent with her zither and her voice. I saw her at Cafe Society Downtown and she was kind enough to give Reigh Peck and me a ringside table. Pete Langston Danville, Va.

Susan Reed sang: "Must I go bound and you go free? Must I love a lad who doesn't love me? Must I be born with so little art? As to love a lad who would break my heart?" She wore a long red velvet dress and plinked a small harp. Her voice was soft and breathy, a girl in a rose-covered tower. How well she captured and conveyed the times and tempo of that song! Even now, when I see a picture of a castle in the British Isles, that song and Susan Reed come to mind. I would never have believed she had been a cabaret singer until finding out in this obituary. It shows how versatile she was, to have joined the folk music movement of the sixties and contributed such elegance to it. Rest in Peace, Susan Reed, and I am glad to read that you had enjoyed a long life.

My dad always kept a framed picture of Susan Reed in his office, as a rememberance of a time he met her when he was young. I know she had a place in his heart, because of the excitement he had when he told the story over and over. For me her memory will live on with his. God Bless.
