Dr. Susan Kay Repertinger-Fisher, 44, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away and completed this part of life on Friday September 2nd, as a result of an accident.
Susan was born on September 22, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to John and Geniece Repertinger. In fourth grade she moved with her family to Burlington, Iowa. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1985, and in 1990 graduated from the University of Iowa with a minor in psychology and a BA degree in accounting. She subsequently enrolled in medical school at the University of Iowa, where she received a Doctor of Medicine degree.
After an extended illness, Susan resumed her education at Creighton University, where she became a pathology resident. While at Creighton, she married Michael Fisher. Together they had a son, Stephen, in 2005. After completing her pathology residency in 2007, Susan completed a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Creighton and became a junior faculty member and Associate Residency Program Director at Creighton University. In 2009, she received the Creighton University / Creighton Medical Laboratory Faculty Teaching Award. During this time she also worked at the Omaha Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Most recently, she worked at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.
While growing up in Burlington, Susan was a competitive tennis player, an A student, and a skilled classical pianist. She enjoyed listening to disco and rock and roll music. As an adult, Susan was an avid reader, relishing books about medicine, finance, and home decoration. She read the Bible every day. She liked to crochet, and would often make scarves to give to friends and colleagues. Susan was a lover of nature who enjoyed flowers and savored the changing of the Iowa leaves in autumn. She loved animals, including her cats, as well as the birds, deer, squirrels, and wild turkeys that lived on the wooded hill outside her home.
Susan was a sensitive and compassionate woman who would always listen sympathetically to the problems of others. She loved spending time with her family, most of all with her beloved son Stephen, who was always foremost in her thoughts.
Susan is survived by her mother Geniece, of Burlington; her brother Steve, of San Francisco, CA; her husband Michael Fisher, of Council Bluffs; and her son Stephen, also of Council Bluffs. She will be missed by her friends, who appreciated her goodness, her fairness, her caring, her niceness, her compassion.
A memorial service for Dr. Repertinger-Fisher will be 2:00 PM Sunday, September 18, 2011, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1221 Park Avenue in Burlington, with Pastor D. Dean Benton officiating.
Memorials have been established for Stephen's college education and the Midlands Humane Society.
