Susan Schlyer Obituary

Susan was born on July 12, 1953 in Cincinnati, OH to Gerald and Ann (Slocum) Merrill. On April 29, 1983, she married Rodney Kent Schlyer in Battle Creek and together raised two children, Jennifer (Dresden) Caswell and Rodney Schlyer Jr.
Susan embraced life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling and as an artist, her talents were wide and varied, including many hobbies and interests. Susan spent her early adult years working in the food industry before transitioning to, and eventually retiring from, the Battle Creek Postal Office as a Clerk. Above all, Susan loved and cared for her entire family, never turning away from those in need.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Ann, and her brothers, Michael and Patrick. She is survived by her husband Rodney, her children Jennifer (Kevin) and Rodney Jr. (Pam), her grandchildren, Brooke, Joshua, Tyler, Brady, and Elaine, her great grandchildren, Liam and Thea, as well as her brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Susan s life will take place on October 8, 2022, from 11:00-3:00 at St. Ambrose Parish Hall at 1628 E. G Ave, Parchment, MI. In lieu of flowers, we welcome a memorial in Susan s name to Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, MI. God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.
