Susan Thomas Tippets, 82, died Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the University of Utah Hospital from injuries due to a car accident and a subsequent cardiac arrest. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Susan was born June 5, 1943 in Roswell, NM to Frank and Dorotha Thomas. She was the oldest of 4 children. She spent her younger years in Laramie, Kemmerer, and Bridger Valley, Wyoming.
She graduated from Lyman High School in 1961 and from the University of Wyoming with an Education degree and went on to teach elementary school for a few years.
She met her future husband, Ashby (Hap) Tippets, the first week of attending the University of Wyoming during Lambda Delta Sigma Pledge Week- it was love at first sight for both of them. After a brief courtship of 4 years, and waiting for Hap to serve a LDS mission, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 27, 1965. They have been married for 60 years.
Sue and Hap have lived in the Bridger Valley for 50 years where they raised their 6 children. After Hap retired from dentistry, they served two LDS missions. One in the Ogden Temple and the other in Costa Rica, where Sue discovered that she loved to zipline!
Susan had many interests that she pursued in depth and brought her joy. She was an avid genealogist, wrote several books about the history and people of the Bridger Valley, and played the piano and organ. She loved quilting, sewing (owning her own sewing school in her younger years), painting, interior design, studying the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and her most recent joy (which her granddaughters introduced to her) watching K-Dramas.
She is survived by her husband, Ashby (Hap) Tippets. Her siblings: Tom (Linda) Thomas, Mary Ann Peterson, and Sarah (Blaine) Hope. Her children: Tom (Denise) Tippets, Juli (John) Schiess, Ben (Mona) Tippets, Joel (Jocelynn) Tippets, Jeremy (Cami) Tippets, and Katie (Jonathan) Hudson. She had 27 grandchildren and was excited to have her first great grandchild on the way!
