Susan Jane Udell, age 91, of Marshall died Friday afternoon, June 22, 2012 at her home following a long illness. Miss Udell was born in Marshall on January 23, 1921 to Virginia (Briggs) and Norman H. Udell. She was a 1938 graduate of Marshall High School and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1942. She retired in 1977 from the Kellogg Company as General Ledger Accountant after serving 35 years in various accounting positions. Susan was a member and long-time co-chairman of gift sales of the Marshall Historical Society, a Life Master in the American Contact Bridge League, the University of Michigan Alumni Association and the Calhoun County Genealogical Society. In 2004, she was awarded the Heritage Day Minuteman Award, presented by the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce. The clock that stands in front of Herman's Hardware store in downtown Marshall was a gift to the City of Marshall from Susan and her sister, Marcia Udell. She and her sister were avid travelers and had traveled in all 50 states and many foreign countries, including Colombia and Peru in South America, Mexico, Kenya in East Africa, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Marcia Udell (2003). Friends may call at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Marshall on Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of her life will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the funeral home with Reverend Jim Codde officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery.
